Post subject: Suitable AP's

Hi there, we are a cable isp that is going to be purchasing your enterprise edition and implementing scenario 3. Cost is an issue on this project as we do not anticipate much revenue from our Hotspots initially. For the AP's we are considering using Linksys wrt54g's and running either openwrt with openvpn or sveasoft's talisman vpn software on them.. Do you have any input or know of any customers running these "modified" AP's with your software ??

Thanks
Mike

Note that FirstSpot is completely AP neutral and it does not require modified AP. Having said that, FirstSpot should work with those AP. In general, make sure you turn off DHCP server within the AP.

Thanks for the quick response.. The reason we are thinking of running the Ap's modified is that this now enables them to run VPN software. On another note as stated we are an ISP and are familiar with setting up VPN's.. I see in your forum that you keep referring to needing a VPN with Non split tunneling, can you tell me the technical reason for this ? As far as we can tell the only benefit would be a reduced traffic back through the firstspot server ?

If you use Scenerio 3 (see http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html ), you actually need a non-split VPN router on site.

Also, please check out http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/FirstSpot_Scenario_3_with_VPN.pdf for more in-depth discussion.
