Post subject: FirstSpot and SurfControl

I am looking to get FirstSpot to work through an ISA 2004 Server that also has SurfControl. SurfControl is used for content filtering.

A simple design is.

Wireless Segment =====>FirstSpot ======> ISA/SurfControl ======> Internet.

I can get a unit on the Wireless Segment to go out but content filtering does not work. I have to set the Default Gateway on the Public side on the ForstSpot server to the Ip address of the ISA/SurfControl Box. I am looking to setup internet access to patients and visitors to our hospital.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
John

Note that the ISA/Surf Control must act as "transparent proxy". From FirstSpot point of view, it is really a router.

When you say it does not work, what is the exact symptoms?

I can route through the ISA/Surfcontrol Box. If I go to a site that would normally be blocked (i.e.Aldult Content) it goes through. I should get a blocked site screen.

If this will not work can you recommend something that might? I must have content filtering.

Thanks,
John

Well, if your ISA/Surf Control works as "transparent proxy", FirstSpot theoretically doesn't even know there is a filtering there. So the key is that you need to make sure ISA/Surf Control works as "transparent proxy".

You should be able to configure ISA 2004 as Transparent Proxy. See http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/isa/2004/plan/bestpractices.mspx for details.
