Redirection fails

Hi there,

I set up a test configuration with a W2k SP4 server and a WXP SP2 client. Firstspot installs great, dhcp works fine and I can see the login and the "Congratsulations is works" pages. However I am unable to see any other site. I am even unable to ping the gateway of my public network although pinging the public NIC works fine. I am attaching the config and the ipconfig outputs.

Any help will be appreciated.

Seems like you turn off NAT within FirstSpot. Make sure:

1) setup the return route correctly in the router in the next hop (refer to Chapter 3 of firstspot_guide.pdf)

or

2) turn back on NAT within FirstSpot. Restart FirstSpot

Hi again,

I changed the settings, restarted firstspot and it seems to work. However, it takes more than one attempts of (re)loading a site in order to get redirected to the firstspot login page. The rest of the time I get a "page has no data" error. After logging in it works as expected.

Why is that? How can I fix that?

This is not normal.

Please check:
1) Can the client ping, say apple.com, consistently? Try the command "ping -t apple.com" to see whether there is any dropped packets. (please post the output as well)

2) Once the client successfully login, please logout and retry using the same client. Is this intermittent problem still there for this same client? Or is the problem now disappeared?
