Post subject: Login duration still running even if user is disconnected

Dear all,

I'm currently testing the trial version of FirstSpot v7.0.12. Very nice and robust product. Very Happy

However I'm facing the following issue : when a user disconnects from his session, the login duration time is still running (in "Status" menu) and the user status is still "online" (in the "Users" menu)
As far as I understand, the login time countdown should stop and the status should be "offline" after disconnection. Am I wrong?

Is this issue related to the "trial" version only (and works well in a registred version) ?

I'm really looking for a system which stops the connection time countdown when the user disconnects from his session.

Please help ! Smile

No, this doesn't sound normal.

So how do you disconnect? Did select user and click "Disconnect" under Configuration Manager -> Status?

I'm simulating a real situation during my tests.

1 PC running and managing FirstSpot
1 PC used as Visitor PC

On Visitor PC:
- I successfully log on to the service. Infobox is appearing.
- I click on the Logout button in the Infobox, which replies that the disconnection is successful.
- Checking on the FirstSpot PC, user is still connected and login duration time is still running.
- On Visitor PC, if I open again the Infobox, the connection is still running.
- I tried to logout several time, without success.
- The only way is to disconnect the user is through the FirstSpot PC, by manually disconnect the user (in "Status" menu).

This sounds weird indeed...

Thanks !

Something wrong with the database operation (during the first logout). Did you somehow change the default datasource?

Also, what FirstSpot setting did you change? We recommend that you use default setting as much as possible during initial test.

Also, make sure you install FirstSpot in a Windows PC with 2 physical network cards (only). At this point, don't test FirstSpot using VM yet (even though we do support VMWare and Hyper-V)

I've strictly followed the installation requirements (in readme.rtf), and used all the default values.
In addition FirstSpot runs on a real PC and not on VM
Internet Network Adapter in a Wi-Fi card, Visitor Network Adapter is a standard Ethernet card (Broadcom). So far so good for access control and Internet access... Just that login duration countdown which is always running after disconnections.

For the tests I'm using the default user accounts which already exist in the trial version (alice, bruce, sample...)

Your configuration looks correct.

The only thing I can think of there is problem with the ODBC database driver in your Windows. What version of Windows are you using in the FirstSpot machine? Did you have MS Office installed? See http://patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4634#4634 for a suggestion

Better yet, do you have another Windows that you can test FirstSpot on?

FirstSpot PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bits with SP1.

I plan indeed to install again the software on an other PC to check if the problem happens as well.

I'll let you know the result...

Thanks for your effort. Windows 7 64bit is a supported Windows. It is just maybe there is some problem with your ODBC.

BTW, what is the browser and OS for your client PC?

Client "Visitor" PC has the same OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits)...
I was using MSIE (last version) but you are reminding me that I did not test with another browser.

It now sounds to me the the browser (MSIE) does not send the logout message properly to FirstSpot. Indeed when I open the Infobox again on the visitor PC, the connection is still open...

I'll try tomorrow with another browser (Firefox / Google chrome) !

Thanks for the highlight !

We re-test using Windows 8 IE10 (both desktop and metro editions) and cannot reproduce your problem. Everything works as expected.

We will test IE10 on Windows 7 later today.

IE10 on Windows 7 (32bit) works fine as well.

So your current focus should be on the FirstSpot machine.

I've finally uninstall and reinstall FirstSpot on my test PC, and everything works perfectly now... Really a very nice product !!! Very Happy

The only difference between the 2 installations is that I chose a manual start of the service during the 1st installation, and an automatic start during the second one.

Alan, thanks a million for your help ! I really appreciate it !
