'Client Isolation' is at the default 'off'.

Any suggestions as to how to enable Windows Network ?

The Windows Network (i.e. what you see in My Network Places -> Computers Near Me) depends on several factors. Also, it is not real time as it is broadcast mechanism. Our experience is that sometimes it will take up to a minute to resolve.

You might want narrow down the situation by using a subnet without FirstSpot to see whether your problem persists.

Without FS, and using only a router for all gateway functions, all the computers network and the router appear fairly quickly in Windows networking.

With FS, Windows (XP & Vista clients) looks for some time (Vista even has a progress bar) but returns nothing, not even the client computer doing the looking. The behavior is more like dead than lethargic.

I also tried using iTunes in client/server mode (which does not depend on Windows networking), the client saw the server but then complained about a blocked port. It made some sense, I'm assuming I can unblock the port. But that is not the question here, just trying to give you a bigger picture of network health.

I took the FS server to a different network of clients (new Vista machines offsite) with router and saw the same network-less behavior. FS itself worked fine.

Actually, with FirstSpot enabled, for some reasons it takes quite a bit longer to refresh the "Computer Near Me" or "View workgroup computers" entries (try to wait up to 15 minutes).

The key is that nearby computers will eventually show up, which you need the "Client Isolation" feature to block them.
