Post subject: Placement and config in relation to firewall

I am running a Netgear FX538 firewall and want to put FirstSpot between it and my guest network. The 538 connects to the internet via cable broadband.
If I understand it correctly, I would turn off DHCP in the 538, but I am hazy on IP configuration for the publc and private NICs. Also, would I turn off FirstSpot's NAT as the 538 provides it?
Thanks.

In general, you shouldn't put a firewall between FirstSpot and the guest network.

Please check out http://www.patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1084 for ways to secure FirstSpot.

You misunderstood. The firewall resides between FirstSpot and the internet. The problem seems to be that the firwall's IP range is the same as FirstSpots'. The configuration is:

Internet --> Firewall (NATed: 192.168.1.x) --> FirstSpot (NATed;(192.168.1.x) --> guest network.

1. Is the the correct configuration
2. Can the IP range be changed?

Thank you.

If your firewall acts as a NATed router, then the IP needed to be different than FirstSpot.

To change FirstSpot Public Network Interface IP (i.e. Internet side), just change it in Windows.

To change FirstSpot Private Network Interface IP (i.e. Hotspot side), you need to change it within Dispatcher category of Configuration Manager, then restart FirstSpot.

Also, you don't need to turn off DHCP in FX538, and it is okay to have both FX538 and FirstSpot NATed.
