Hi after searching this forum and testing diffferent things I still have a problem:
My setup: WinXP 2 nics, private and public , 1 Intel AP (DHCP desabled)with cross over cable to private nic (or I must use a switch between the AP and private nic?). Plugging a laptop with crossover cable, I can access to FS, I get IP..,however with AP & wireless, the laptop does not connect to AP.
Q. In Intel AP do I have to setup IP, DNS and subnet mask same as private nic?
Q. does subnet mask has to be identical?
Q. in win ip config, most examples I have seen in this forum show FS as primary DNS, not on mine.

You need to turn off the DHCP server within your AP, and make sure the client obtains the IP from FirstSpot DHCP server instead. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Thanks Allan for reply. However the DHCP on Ap is turned off, and as I said when I connect a laptop with a crossover to the private nic I get the IP from FS. Question to clarify:using a crossover between private nic and router port on AP is ok? or I must use regular cable? I tried with both did not make a difference. At one point I could see the Wifi signal from my AP on may laptop Wifi but could not connect. Another question do I have to configure DNS and Gateway on my AP? Thanks Allan |

1) Either crossover or straight cable is fine, as long as you get the connected signal from the jack.
2) You don't need to setup DNS or gateway in the AP at all! FirstSpot will handle everything.
It seems that you need someone who knows networking better to help you with the setup. Please check out http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html for the basic topology to setup FirstSpot. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Thanks Allan for the reply, I have been in this business for the past 25 years, we are IPs and have been using Wifi technology for the past 5 years in installing and providing wifi internet connections for business customers. we are evaluating the FS product for some new projects. Can you help us out? |
