Post subject: DHCP IP conflict

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am evaluating the Trial version.
I encountered IP conflict when I plug two wireless card to 2 different laptops to test and when it happened, both laptops can't get access.

I would like to know the which MAC address was getting the IP info but I couldn't find in the Status, DHCP.... I found that, current system can only show the MAC info when the user is logging into FS.

The sequence I tried
1. Connect the first wireless card and got the IP 10.20.7.43.
2. I disconnected the 1st wireless card and connected the 2nd card with another laptops and it got the IP 10.20.7.43 as well!
3. I connected the 1st wireless card to the 1st laptop whereby the 2nd card was still connecting with 2nd laptop. IP Conflict msg show at both laptops.

Can you explain the problem?
Thanks.
Vincent

We thinking we discover the problem, and we are working on a fix.

Our initial assessment is that the problem should be rare and it requires specific sequence of steps to reproduce.

Do you mean it will be included in the final release of v4? When will the final v4 be released?

How to upgrade from v4 beta 2 to final release? Do I need to remove and reinstall or just run a patch file to upgrade?

I am also having the same problem, any ETA on a fix for this?

I believe maybe I can disable the DHCP on firstspot and enable the DHCP on windows 2003, would this work as a temporary work around?

smyers1972:

You can try to enable DHCP on Windows 2003 but feel sth maybe not so right.... Maybe Alan can advise.

Alan:

Highly appreciate if the patch to fix this problem can be releasing soon if v4 final release still require sometime to go. For my case, I'm using Windows XP to run, so it's impossible for me to turn on Windows DHCP Server if it works.

Kindly look into this asap.

Post subject: hmmm

Thats a tough one.. Its a random occurance for me. I can put maybe two laptops on the network and if the machine had been up and running for a couple days it will appear.

I did my temporary work around and disabled DHCP from firstspot and was able to use DHCP on Windows 2003 Server. I wish I could be of more help... If I still have the log(s) I will paste them later on as I am sitting in my car at the moment on cellular... LOL

We just released a special patch:

http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/download/patch/dhcpservice.exe

Just copy this exe to your existing v4 beta2a installation (under FirstSpot\dispatcher directory), and then restart FirstSpot.

Please give us feedback on whether this patch fixes your problem.

Should everyone do this or just those that had this error - i've not moved yet, so only used mine on one laptop (my own). so should I do this to prevent the option this occuring?

Also, any eta on the release of final 4.0?

Thanks
