Post subject: wi-fi signal control

i work for a university. we would like to implement wi-fi in the institution but we dont want our signal to leak into the nearby building and other establishments. we feel that if this happens, this may be used by hackers to get into out files. also, more users mean slower bandwidth, and we dont want non legitimate users benefitting from our wireless network.

do you have a product or technology that can control the distance a signal can travel without potting the signal strength in jeopardy. also, do you have a management software to control our existing 150+ access points?

Our software FirstSpot works in the TCP/IP level and it doesn't tie to the hardware. So you need to source your AP from other vendors.

Keep in mind that FirstSpot acts as a gateway for Wi-Fi Hotspot, so it will work with any AP. See http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html for a typical setup for FirstSpot operated network.

Sorry for the late reply. So this means that first spot can control AP operations located around the campus. But I am also looking for ways to control the sigal. Particularly, we dont want wi fi signal beyond the campus.

You need a special AP or other hardware to achieve that.
