Of course, we will fix this immediately when we get more information. The difficulty is that we are unable to reproduce the problem.
Please observe the previous description in this thread. Try to help us to narrow the issue. To recap, there are several steps for Vista client to reach FirstSpot,
1) attach to the Wi-Fi network. We suspect that a lot Vista clients actually fail in this step, see http://www.wifimvp.com/vistawireless.htm
2) obtain IP from FirstSpot DHCP server. After this steps, the client should be able to ping PrivateIP of FirstSpot server
3) access Internet through FirstSpot. Note that this subdivides into:
a) DNS lookup. You need to use command nslookup confirm the DNS lookup is okay
b) access a normal web like yahoo.com
We need to know exact which step the client fails in order to fix your issue. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~

Hi Alan
OK i can tell you how it happens for us and although i don't want to i undersand your problem of repeating this issue as it does not happen with all vista machines and all the time.
for ue it happens like this
client find our network is given an Ip signs up and is redirected to paypal and pays. then when they are redirected back form paypal they get page cannot be displayed.
thereafter they get an ip but most of the time they cannot get the log on page, but not always. if we use an access point as a wireless client, then connect by Ethernet the problem goes away. |

I still think it might be hardware problem. Next time when the client has connection problem, please issue:
ping privateIP
from the client PC to confirm that the physical connection is indeed still working. _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

I apologize for not coming back and reporting this earlier, but our issues have been resolved. As I suspected a few posts back, this didn't have anything to do with Firstspot (for us). It was a non-documented flaw in the Nortel APs / management system we were using. An update to some firmware and the management software (which, in the changelog, mentioned NOTHING about Vista) solved the problem. If you're using a Nortel AP system then make sure you have the newest firmware and software installed on your devices. |
