Post subject: Here we go again!

We'l, the 30 day trial expired before we could get the system moved from our test bed to our production and so we had to start again! PAIN!

Uninstalled demo/trial
Uninstalled Apache server
Downloaded s/w
Reinstalled trial
reinstalled apache server

Now it doesn't run! Life has got to be eaiser than this! It's a shame that software that can do a job you want done, can't seem to handle standard dual processors like everybody else and everytime you try to touch it, it's like jello.....it just starts shaking and can't stop.

We really like your s/w and would like to purchase it, if we can get it set back up again.

OK. Here's the deal. As above, reloaded and now when we click on "configuration manager" it comes up to a web/url of "page not found"????

Now what??

FirstSpot installer will handle installation of ALL its components including the built-in Apache, DNS, DHCP servers. Please DO NOT install Apache sparately or FirstSpot won't work properly.

The same applies to uninstallation, Apache will be uninstalled together with FirstSpot.

If you have installed Apache separately (again) after FirstSpot installation, it may mess up the whole installation. The reason is, FirstSpot will configure Apache to work with itself. A repeated installation of Apache will overwrite those settings.

For your case, please try to uninstall FirstSpot; reboot the machine and check if Apache is still there. If so, try your best to uninstall Apache *completely* (and probably you need to do it manually) before a fresh installation of FirstSpot again.

Post subject: Software Running but no connection

OK, after three attemps to install/uninstall we finally have the software back up and appearing to be running.

However,
Even though we see and excellent signal from the wireless antenna, and we appear to have a connection via the wireless card, all we get when we open our browser (IE6), is "Page Cannot Be Found".....ie, no connection to the Firstspot or the internet or anything?

Suggestions??

Also, when we do get this going, soon I hope, can we pay you via Paypal to get the key to make this thing permanate?

Thanks
Frank

Is your client machine using DHCP to get IP details? When you do an "ipconfig /all" from your client machine, are the default gateway and DNS pointing to FirstSpot's private interface's IP?

Yes, you can purchase FirstSpot using our PayPal payment gateway. We will send you the product license afterwards.

Post subject: Why Why Why does this have to be so difficult!!

I hate spending hours and hours trying to get something to work that should be a simple "plug and play"!!!!!

I can make my AP talk to everything in the world except your Firstspot s/w.

Your software starts up and says it is running, but the AP can't see it and we get no client connects.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I put the AP on another machine. Assign an 10.20.7.200 IP, static to it, and I then move it to the Firstspot machine......NOTHING!!!

I have over 500 Hamvention people from around the world coming in this week and this is NOT going to be pretty if we can't get this thing up and running!

Post subject: What did I do???

The biggest challenge in getting the things straightened out is mostly "sequence". Starting the AP at the right time in relation to the FS s/w. Getting the internal DHCP server seeing tha AP. Setting up the AP on the internal network and then transfering it to the 10. net.

Little things when taken seperately, but a real pain when trying to get things going quickly. It might be nice to have a "step manual" of ordered sequence to help start and stop things correctly.

Right now, we do have an interesting thing. We can start up the client and see the FS url page. Log in with either alice or sample, and it works ok except that there is no longer a "log off" box or screen?? We have tried it multiple times with different clients, but while everything seems to start up ok, there is no "log off" (as there used to be before).

Also, even thought there is no log off, and you close the browser down, when you re-open the browser (inside of the allowed mins.), the client can go directly to their home page url without relogging into the FS s/w?? Is that normal??

1) If you don't see InfoBox windows (i.e. "log off" box in your terminology), most likely you have Anti-Popup features turn on (e.g. those in Google toolbar or Yahoo Companion). Please turn it off or at least put FirstSpot IP address as an exception for anti-popup

2) The InfoBox itself is optional and won't affect FirstSpot login session. So in other words, it is normal for you be able to surf Internet. Either FirstSpot timeout that particular user or the client use the Instant Keyword "logout" to log off explicitly will the client see the login window again.
