Post subject: Firstspot not authenticating

I have a 5.8 GHz point to multipoint (PtMP) and I have an AP connected to each of the remote side of this PtMP set up; for some reason user that connect to the AP do not authenticate at all, they just surf for free. Need some help in here.

I can only guess since I don't know your network in details. Couple of things to check:

1) make sure FirstSpot is between your client PC and the Internet. FirstSpot acts as a gateway which will force the client PC to authenticate before reaching the Internet.

2) there are no NAT routers between client and FirstSpot (assuming Scenario 1, see http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/topologies.html )

My set up is like this:

Modem - Router - Firstspot - switch - wireless bridges - Access Point - Clients

Honestly it authenticate to PCs connected by wire to the switch but thats pretty much it. I found out that tranparency bridging could be the problem and I need to authenticate trough IP and not through MAC; can you explain this a little bit more.

Looks like your wireless bridges and/or Access Point somehow act as a router. You need to make sure it acts as a bridge instead of a router (otherwise it will hide the MAC). For Access Point, just make sure the WAN port is not used.
