dhcp leases

i currently have 7 ssids all on diffrent subnets.
each subnet can have 16384 addresses.
every time i connect to an ssid firstspot takes an extroadinary amount of time to give my client an ip.
question is i
f i make my subnets smaller say 1022 host ips in each subnet will this speed up firstspots dhcp service?

It should improve the performance.

The best test I can think of is to just set the subnet mask to class C and see whether the performance improves.

ok i did that and it only cut the time down by 10 secs

in my windows event logs im getting a lot off

Unable to contact a DHCP server. The Automatic Private address 169.254.18.230 will be assisgned to dial in clients. Clients may be unable to access resources on the network.

Any ideas.

what would be the result of running microsofts dhcp server on the first spot machine. or is that a no go. would firstspot still be able to handle the routing?

No, you cannot have another DHCP server in the same hotspot network segment. As DHCP is a broadcast protocol, it will create confusion for both the client and FirstSpot server.

sorry alan i meant to say instead of the first spot one.

any idea about those messages in my event logs?

Your event log message basically means that client fails to obtain an IP from the DHCP server.

I suggest you make your case simpler first. Have you used "Excluded IP"? Make sure it is a valid IP within the scope. Also, you might want to check your hardware and use Ethreal to inspect your network.
