Can you try:
1) unplug the Xircom card completely
2) Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter
3) Install v4 beta 2, select your built-in Ethernet as Private and Loopback as Public during install
4) Try to start FirstSpot _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

It is really puzzling.
We do have many customers using v4 beta 2 already, so your case is quite special. Usually, this kind of problem is resolved when user installing FirstSpot in a clean Windows.
Since you have this problem in both machines, there should be one offending factor that exists in both machine. Can you try to identify what is in common in both machines (except for Xircom)? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

I'm running an nForce4 with dual onboard nics, and it's doing the exact same thing:
The PatronSoft FirstSpot Dispatcher service depends on the following nonexistent service: firsthop

jbrovont, your problem may not be the same as rjkerr's.
Your problem is related to driver issue. Again, can you try to install FirstSpot in a clean Windows? _________________ ~ Patronsoft Limited ~ |

Okay, I put together another windows box, running two realtek cards, PIII, WinXP Pro - and the problem is cured. I tried for a few hours fiddling with the drivers on my nforce board, but no luck. Any suggestions? The board has dual gigabit connections - any known issues there? I'd like to get it off the clunker and onto the opteron. :)
But for now it's working like a charm on the other box. I'm testing it on my network right now - _very_ nice job on this software btw :) |
