Post subject: Games consoles

I have read through all of these forums, your user manual and tested myself and I cannot make games consoles work on a firstspot network.

I need a definitive solution that actually works because we are having real problems with this.

Have tried client pass through, passive login.. nothing working. Please advise.

You simply need to add your console MAC address in the Configuration Manager -> Users as Passive Login user.

Note that Passive Login is not available in Standard Edition. You need to use Premium or Advanced Edition. Please visit http://patronsoft.com/firstspot/buy_now_2.html if you need to purchase an upgrade.

so I don't need to add them to the client filter as a client pass through? Literally just put as a passive login? As I have tried this previously and had no luck. Do I need to change the NAT settings within the configuration manager? I've seen other threads about this and no solid solution.

No, please delete all entries in Client Pass-through, and then restart FirstSpot.

Are you using FirstSpot Premium or Advanced Edition?

Advanced edition - I will see if my clients can access it. Is this the only way to do it, as if this doesn't work I am going to need alternatives. Judging by the amount of views this post has had it would suggest I am not the only one having these problems.

The Passive Login feature has been available for more than 10 years and have been quite stable.

You can simply setup a test FirstSpot (in a very simple network) and then play with the Passive Login feature. It is actually pretty straightforward.

Xbox is working as a passive login, yet Playstation's wont. Any ideas guys? Judging by the fact Xbox's are working with just passive logins NAT / port forwarding is not required.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any update on this? We have Xbox consoles working with a passive login, however Playstation consoles will not work as a passive login.

The error message appearing is a DNS error (80710102)

What is the FirstSpot version you are currently using? Are you using the default FirstSpot DNS or change to external DNS (under Configuration Manager -> DHCP setting)?

DHCP setting is FirstSpot default. We have static IPs on the network which have been put in the DHCP exclusion table.

The console is getting a dynamic IP address from the FirstSpot DHCP server.

Not too sure why. As a workaround, can you set the playstation DNS manually to external DNS like 8.8.8.8?

As part of the DHCP settings we have already set the DNS 1 to IP of FirstSpot and DNS 2 to Google (8.8.8.Cool.

No, this won't work. Keep the DNS setting under DHCP server as default, and then restart FirstSpot. You need to renew all IP in the client side and test again.
