Post subject: Firstspot server - Slow to reload services

Hi All

OUr firstpot server is taking ages to reinitialise the service after reboot. It can take upto 10 minutes. The server is a 8 core high end server but it looks like firstspot is maxing out just 1 core.

Can someone have a look.

Are you using some kind of VM technology? The CPU load balancing is actually done by Windows so strictly speaking it is not directly related to FirstSpot.

More explanation : FirstSpot is designed to take advantage of multiple cores CPU very effectively. Refer to http://patronsoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2692 for more discussion on this topic.

Can you check your Windows setting? Since there are many threads within FirstSpot, Windows should spread the load pretty evenly.

If you can see one particular thread just consuming one core (check Windows Task Manager) during startup, then maybe there is a issue within the startup sequence. Please post the log file firstspot_gw_srv_[timestamp].log under FirstSpot\log directory for further analysis.

Post subject: Slowness

Hi support

I need some more help in looking into our setup. The issue we are having is that we have a24 hour free acces plan setup and this works fine and redirects to the main organsations website but the issue we have is the redirect get slower over time and this can hang for upto 3 minutes. If i reboot the service it clear the issue but it is a problem.

the redirect url is: http://firstspot.org:5788/fs_signup.php

Is the above CPU issue resolved? Please check the Task Manager to see whether the CPU utilization is skewed towards one core.

Also, when the slowdown occurs, can you issue the below command in the client side:

Code:
nslookup firstspot.org
ping firstspot.org

and post the result here.

HI

I did the ping and nslookup test and got a response back instantly. I took some screenshots of what happens when a user tried for 24 hours access.

The server utilisation is around 5 to 15 % across all cores.

I think i have found the issue.

I have stopped using nat on the server and now rely on the external firewall to manage connection. This dropped the servers memory usage dramticly and it has sped up the conneciton speed.

Post subject: Not the issue

Right

The nat problem was not the issue but we did notice a increase in performance. Anyway what has become apparent is that we are seeing that the memory on the server is increasingly being used up over 3 - 4 days and the redirect also becomes very slow.

Again if you reboot the service the momory usage on the server drops and redirect work instantly.

Is this a memory leak on the firstspot service.

Which memory usage field did you monitor? Normally, we don't notice significant memory leaks in our internal stress test.
