Post subject: dhcp ip address scope

So does it mean that i simply need to change the subnet mask on my NIC from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0 ?

Will doing this change the dhcp scope automatically?

Post subject: Wrong netmask given by DHCP service

So I have changed the netmask on the firstspot server from 255.255.255.0 (default) to 255.255.0.0

This is to allow for a larger number of IP addresses.

We find that the firstspot system provides the wrong netmask, ie: 255.255.255.255 instead of 255.255.0.0

For example:

Firstspot IP is 10.20.7.1 255.255.0.0

Client IP is 10.20.18.150 255.255.255.255

So client can not ping firstspot since they are on different subnets!

What should I be doing? I have already restarted the firstspot several times.

This is due to the Client Isolation setting.

If your Client Isolation is working, don't change anything.

Post subject: clarity

Hi I'm sorry to be pedantic
But to be clear you change the sub net mask on the network adaptor card 255.255.0.0
I have two questions
1. do you change the dhcp scoop subnet mask in the firstspot server to the same as the the card?
2. if client isolation is off leave it off if its on leave it on , is that correct?

1. You only need to change the Visitor Network Interface subnet mask under Configuration Manager -> Dispatcher (Main), and then restart FirstSpot

2. Yes
