Post subject: After Installation Problem!!

After installing the program and binding the network cards etc...

i tried logging in with the 'sample' username....using this address - http://10.20.7.1:5788 and i get this error

Notice: Undefined variable: sess_patronsoft2 in c:\program files\firstspot\authserv\login.php on line 294

Warning: com_invoke(): Invoke() failed: Type mismatch. Argument: 4 in c:\program files\firstspot\authserv\login.php on line 294
Invalid login! Please try again...

even making a new username and password it still reports back with this error....any solutions?

Thanks

FirstSpot uses session cookies during authentication process. Does your machine have personal firewall installed which disables the session cookies? Setttings of some web browsers may also suppress session cookies.

Also, I'm assuming you were redirected to http://10.20.7.1:5788/login_form.php after typing an Internet URL; instead of typing that 10.20.7.1 address manually. Otherwise, it will produce error, please refer to the documentation for details.

Please let me know if you manually typed that URL or you were being redirected to that?

FirstSpot was not designed to let you type the http://10.20.7.1:5788/login_form.php URL directly, login and then surf the Internet.

It's the other way round, type any Internet URL (e.g. www.cnn.com); you will be redirected to the login page; then enter the username and password to authenticate.

Please consult the documentation for details.

The login page won't work on FirstSpot machine itself. Please consult the documentation.

Thank you for your help it's much appreciated. I will bring in the notebook tomorrow and give it a try....it would've been good if this was also mentioned in the manual. I will let Karl Ma know that we will change the documentation...

Thanks again,

Thank you Kevin

Can this be modified so that login can be accessed by the FirstSpot machine.
This would be better for adminstration and modification of web pages etc?

Sorry, that's not possible for the moment. It involves some very complicated architectural reasons.

It would be great if we are able to access the login page on the FirstSpot machine. Will this option be available in version 3? It will be important for adminstration purposes and modifications..

Thanks

Frankly, because of architectural reasons, even you can login successfully on the FirstSpot machine itself, it doesn't mean FirstSpot is working correctly. You really need a client machine to test it through to confirm the routing is correct.

Thanks.
