Post subject: cannot connect mobile devices

Hi,

I have FirstSpot® v7.0.6. Trial installed on an 2008R2 server with an AP from Linksys - WAP610N with WPS disabled.
Everything looked just fine, but today I start to test mobile devices.
I tested with my android and win mobile phones (I have an HTC Desire and an Samsung Omnia B7350).

The problem is that I don't get connected at all, and what's wierd is that in DHCP/Show DHCP status the MAC and IP appears...

Please help!

FirstSpot treats mobile the same as PC. Please check the following:

1) You need to make sure your mobile devices attach to the AP correctly. If you can see the DHCP IP-MAC mapping correctly (please double-check the MAC to see whether it matches the mobile devices MAC), it should be fine.

2) Make sure your mobile device is set to auto DHCP

3) Use the laptop to try to login to FirstSpot through your wireless AP, is it okay?

Thanks,

The DHCP IP-MAC mapping is correct, that's wierd.
Of course it's set to DHCP, we have a wifi solution (that we need to upgrade) and it's connectig to that just fine.
With my laptop everithing is just fine.

What's strange is that finally connects, but after more that 10 minutes.... and after I dont't know how many retries, and if I disconnect again, I need 10 minutes or more again..
Something is not right

Please check the DNS setting if your mobile device. Make sure it is pointing to FirstSpot Visitor Network Interface IP

Also, turn off the cellular data (e.g. 3G) access of the mobile device. This can make sure it forces the traffic to the Wi-Fi.

What DNS settings BEFORE the connection is done?
After the connection is successful, the system works..

The DNS is the same before and after the connection.

Also, make sure the DNS is set to auto DHCP also.

Please double-check the DNS setting. Note that all subsequent connection may be cached, so it is not an accurate diagnosis test at all.

Also, do you have a iPhone to test? Better yet, do you have another AP so that we can eliminate this factor as well?

OK, regarding DNS, I can not alter settings only if i choose "use static IP". Ruled out, I hope.

iPhone I don't have and never will.

I will try another AP, but I'm afraid only next week

So what is your current DNS setting for your mobile device? Static IP or auto DHCP?

It is unlikely that FirstSpot creates the same problem both 2 different mobile devices (Android and Windows Mobile). Again, please double-check your network.

I noticed something strage:

MAC IP Client Name Lease Type Lease Obtain Time Lease Expiry Time
00-1D-E0-45-D7-A7 10.20.7.105 IT-Adi Dynamic Wed Mar 28 15:07:54 2012 Sat Mar 31 11:52:46 2012
90-21-55-0E-90-BA 10.20.7.100 Android_353833042745775 Dynamic Thu Mar 29 12:04:23 2012 Thu Mar 29 12:04:36 2012

The first line is my laptop and the second my Android.

The "lease expiry time" is after 13 seconds....why?

The "Lease time for DHCP Client" is set to 2880 minutes

You can also reset the DHCP IP assignment history by the following steps:
- stop FirstSpot
- rename the file dhcpservice.ini under FirstSpot\dhcp directory to something else
- start FirstSpot
