Support for 64bit machines

given that Windows Server 2008 R2 only supports 64bits, are you going to develop a 64bit capable version of FirstSpot?
If yes, could you tell me when?

A 64bit version of FirstSpot is definitely in the plan, but we don't have a fixed schedule yet.

Can you run FirstSpot on Windows 2008 SP2?

I wish I could but we purchased a new server 64bit not so long ago for FTP, DNS, DHCP etc. We have no reasons to justify the purchase of a 32bit machine since it would certainly be cheaper to purchase a hardware based captive portal.

Maybe you can use Hyper-V VM and install 32 bit Windows there?

I'm already concerned about a windows machine doing the routing because it could be a bottleneck, if I add to the equation Hyper-V are we sure we would have the best possible performances?
This hotspot would have to serve 300 people over a 20Mb/s line.

FirstSpot is not particularly CPU intensive, so it should work fine as long as the load is spread across different CPU cores. Note that FirstSpot has its own DNS, DHCP so you probably don't need to run them in your host.

Also, you can run Windows 2003 in your VM as it incurs less overhead than the newer version of Windows.
